Invited lecture by Dr. Edina Avdović at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sarajevo: The potential of grape skins in the pharmaceutical and food industry

Dr. Edina Avdović, senior research associate at the Institute for Information Technologies and project leader of GraSP_MAT within the PROMIS 2023 program and GraSP within the Proof of Concept program of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, delivered a notable lecture at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sarajevo, titled “Unleashing the potential of nature: grape skins as a source of bioactive components and their application in the pharmaceutical and food industry.” The lecture was attended by academic and teaching staff from the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences of the University of Sarajevo.

During the presentation, Dr. Avdović presented part of the research results achieved within the aforementioned projects, with a focus on the innovative use of grape skin extracts originating from Serbia. These extracts, rich in bioactive compounds with pronounced antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties, are being investigated as ingredients for the development of new materials – primarily hydrogel formulations intended for the treatment of chronic wounds, as well as innovative functional food products.

The lecture generated great interest and opened possibilities for future scientific and professional collaboration.
